This special purpose vehicle (SPV) is a Private Public Partnership (PPP) company incorporating Ezra Construction & Development Group Ltd. (ECDG) and South Sudan Electricity Corporation (SSEC), holding respectively 52% and 48% of shares.
JEDCO was established in May 2018 after securing the Power Purchase Agreement with the Government of South Sudan to guarantee accurate and efficient collection of energy sales to customers.
JEDCO, the only licensed electricity distribution company receives electricity from the ECDG power plant and distributes it in Juba. JEDCO strives to provide consistent quality and competitively priced services that exceed its customers’ expectations. The company provides services to residents, businesses, government departments, organizations and private companies.
JEDCO started electricity distribution operations on November 21, 2019, after being commissioned by His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Since then, JEDCO has recorded significant achievements including the expansion of capacity and networks. JEDCO has introduced various mechanisms and innovative ideas to attract customers, and create a stable electricity market in Juba. One such initiative was the introduction of an industrial tariff which encourages customers to use more energy. Another highly praised JEDCO initiative was the introduction of electronic electricity payment options through m-Gurush.
JEDCO’s professional engineering and technician teams have been installing, operating and maintaining a wide range of distribution network installations. The highly skilled teams have taken on projects of varying difficulties, including low voltage extensions, 33 kV line extensions and transformer erection. JEDCO ensures all work done is compliant with international standards and their high-quality guidelines.
To ensure a regular and reliable electricity supply to customers, JEDCO frequently does inspections and preventive maintenance of the distribution network. The teams of engineers and technical staff strive to deliver a comprehensive and responsive emergency maintenance service to domestic, industrial and commercial companies throughout Juba.
JEDCO is currently distributing electricity to 30,000 customers and plans to grow to 50,000 by the end of the year 2022.
